The Brief

Build an 18 hole member’s club on a small, rocky, swampy site with a swathe or two of protected Aspen forest.

The Result

DAVID SAYS...

Maybe the toughest site I’ve ever worked on, but one of the most rewarding outcomes. I went for a totally natural heathland sort of look, blowing up all the big rocky outcrops and digging out the swamps when they were frozen solid in Finland’s icy winters. I kept all the protected areas intact and wove the course into the woods. It turned out well, the members love it and it’s due to host the Finnish Open after only three years open. Hirsala has also been cited as one of the greenest golf courses in the world. https://hirsalagolf.fi/
